MORE FLICKS FROM THE SKYZOO 'CORNERSTORE CLASSIC' MIXTAPE RELEASE PARTY ON SOHH.COM

As promised here are more flicks for that ass. log on to SOHH
(School of Hard Knocks) to check 'em out.

COMMENTARY: MY THOUGHTS ON "ROCK THE BALLS" & RTB AFTER PARTY INFO

I don't know about you but I ain't fucking with Rock the Bells. Yeah I would like to see Rage Against The Machine & Wu-Tang, Nas, MF Doom etc. but I'm in old man mode in regards to attending those all day concerts. I sound like George Costanza via Seinfeld, but honestly do you really want to stand for appoximately ten hours? The chances of rain are leaning toward the affirmative and as told by many who've been to Randall's Island-the spot turns into Woodstock type muddy. I laugh when I think how many sneaker heads are gonna get their heaters busted and Jason Markk will be their only friend.

Also coming as a promoter and event planner for Hip-Hop events, especially because I do it grassroots steez, these big events bascially suck b@lls. The over the top promotion and the bankroll financing all these artists is both good & bad- I bet they're even gonna have some cats trying to break in on the side stage in the back-but as a whole support New York Hip-Hop by supporting those who actually need the money...

We all bust our ass to put big events together in the Mecca of Hip-Hop-New Yawk, and the snobby ass En Why audience can be extremelly critical. I understand this because we have already had Hip-Hop inundated into our skulls and anything less than awesome, is considered trash. Unfortunately people don't give the up & coming a break, unless your already trapped in the NY underground scene who practically everyone in the audience is trying to get their game up as well…

I know a bunch of people going and on the most part, they fall under the "die hard," the casual Hip-Hop fan who has not seen a show in hot minute, or first timers. It's all love but for me I'm just stating my opinion cause it had to be said…

Otherwise, check out the afterparties which I can imagine will be fun. After all the writing, I'm not gonna do my usual info. Just do me a favor this time and click on the image to get the info...

CLASSIC DEF COMEDY JAM

You know how we do-every once in awhile we post something from our memory that we can never forget. In this instance, I had taped this particular bit from comedian Arnez J. He eventually hosted Comic View for a season and continues to do stand up to this day. Even now, he's one of those rare comedians that has an uncanny ability to apply physical schtick in urban stand up routines flawlessly. I had this on VHS taped from its second airing, cause the first time was so good, I had to see it over and over-this routine was in the later days of Def Comedy Jam yet even a decade later-it is as funny as the first time. Replay Value-infinite.

DIRECT FLICKS FROM THE SKYZOO 'CORNERSTORE CLASSIC' MIXTAPE RELEASE PARTY TAKEN PLACE ON FRIDAY JULY 20TH@NOVO.

SKYZOO & GW'S ENCITE WILL BE IN THE BUILDING AT SQUEEZE RADIO THURSDAY NIGHT/FRIDAY MORNING JULY 19TH/20TH

**EDIT**IF YOU LISTENED IN AND DIDN'T HEAR US, THAT'S BECAUSE THIS GOT POSTPONED. STAY TUNED FOR THE MAKE UP DATE. THANKS.

So as we have been promoting like madmen, the Skyzoo "Cornerstore Classic" mixtape party is coming this Friday! So without settling down and giving in we're doing our last minute promo the right way as Skyzoo in addition to myself (Encite, J or your favorite asshole) will be in the building to once again tell you 'bout this "not to miss" event on air with Sucio Smash & Timm See.

As late night radio does, some of you folkers get confused on the time schedule so let me clarify:
SQUEEZE RADIO IS ON THURSDAY NIGHTS. Technically because the show starts at 1am it is Friday but don't we all still consider it Thursday night right? Hopefully you got that.

So for those in the NYC area, turn/click your dial to 89.9fm at 1am to check the best in Hip-Hop with Squeeze, with me and Sky coming on around 130ish. For those not in the area, log on for the mp3 stream by going to:

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/wkcr

I know Mr. Custom Made, Skyzoo will doing the majority of the talking while you hear my adlib supporting role and my unforgiving plugs.

GOD EMCEE & ALL PRO FOOTBALL 2K8 - MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

The legend Rakim was recently commissioned by 2K Sports to do a commercial for the this title. Usually Hip-Hop commercials suck - but seeing the "R' in the tunnel doing it accapella style makes it so worth my television time. Take a look and see for yourself.

*edit- Assuming that all football was Madden I jumped the gun and stated this in the initial entry. oops! So to clarify-2K Sports has brought all the legends of the gridiron to life including greats such as Barry Sanders, Reggie White, Johnny Unitas & Walter Payton in prime condition to battle the best of all time. This particular commercial has Rakim spitting about Jerry Rice and his signature style which coincidentally they match in game movements such as Rice's one handed catches.

FEMI KUTI/RICHMEDINA & SCREENING OF "MUSIC AS A WEAPON" AT CENTRAL PARK SUMMERSTAGE WED. JULY 11TH

TAKEN FROM SUMMERSTAGE.COM
Femi Kuti & The Positive Force
DJ Rich Medina
Film screening of Music Is a Weapon

Wednesday, July 11, 2007
From 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Central Park SummerStage
The power of Afrobeat is showcased live and on film, as an accomplished son pays tribute to his father’s achievement.

Since the 1997 death of his father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Femi Kuti has become the undisputed king of Afrobeat, having taken the style worldwide over the last ten years with his band Positive Force. Collaborating with hip-hoppers like Mos Def and Common and touring with alt-rock icons Jane's Addiction, Femi has expanded the music’s scope without sacrificing its relentless, hypnotic beat or its urgent political concerns. Femi’s performance will be followed by a screening of Music Is A Weapon, the 1982 film by Stephane Tchal-Gadjieff & Jean Jacques Flori that remains the definitive documentary on Fela Kuti and his times. Fela Kuti’s influence on black contemporary music cannot be overestimated; virtually all modern forms of black music (from funk to electronic) owe something to his irresistible Afrobeat groove.

A respected DJ and spoken word artist, Rich Medina has worked with Jill Scott, King Britt, Bobbito, DJ Spinna and many others. With residencies at New York’s S.O.B.’s, APT and Table 50, and Philadelphia’s Tragos and Fluid, Medina is familiar to club goers up and down the East Coast. Marked by a strong message of self-empowerment and hope, his sets are equal parts call-to-party and call-to-action.
